The delivery of happiness

The Nurse with thick spectacles came out of the Labor Theater at Mangalore Nursing Home at 9.10PM and said, "A baby has been born, the pediatrician is looking after the child and will detail you soon" and closed the door. Me, my mother-in-law, her sister and my father-in-law, got anxious and waited for the opening of the door again. I was thinking that, day of birth of my baby and mine will be the same, since I also was born on a 'Monday'.
The previous Thursday, my wife Shwetha had been admitted to the hospital, as she was expecting a delivery soon. Until Monday she seldom felt the delivery pain and that too weakly. So, finally on Monday, at 11.00 AM, the doctor instructed to inject drips which would increase the delivery pain and hence increase the possibility of normal delivery. We waited for the delivery till night 8:40PM, when finally the doctor suggested for a cesarean, since she foresaw complications if waited for normal delivery.
Now it was around 9.15, the door opened again, the same nurse instructed us to enter into the room where, pediatrician had kept my little champ on a stool. The boy was desperately moving his hands and legs. I saw him for a minute and touched him at his cheek, with my fingers. I took great care that, my nail wont touch his cheek. After waiting for long time, my treasure was unleashed. I started dipping into a deep sea of happiness. I was looking at the boy as if, I was looking at the most beautiful scenery in my entire life. Shwetha had given me the biggest gift to me on the occasion of our wedding anniversary.
The Pediatrician said that the boy was healthy and weighed 3.1Kg. I came out, as others were eagerly waiting for seeing the baby, we were instructed to go in, one by one. All of them went in and came out one after the other. My mother-in-law shouted after she came out, "why don't you call your father up and tell the news". I woke up from the ocean of happiness, and called my father's cell. He wont pick up his cell. I called my home land-line number, and my father picked up. I shouted at him,"Why don't you pick the call. I wanted to tell you the news that you have become grandfather of a baby boy". I had already created a contact group in my cell, named "Good news group". I sent group SMS, as the battery of my cell was running out. Suddenly calls from all my friends and relatives started flooding in. I ran to our ward and brought the cell phone charger and sweet box. All of us, ate laddu's and gave it to whoever we saw. We gave some laddu's to the Labor Theater attendants and nurses. It was celebration time and we all celebrated that rare moment.

What is hatred?

My sister gave birth to a child. As she was teacher in a school, when she joined school after maternity leave, she appointed a maid nurse, Girija, to take care of her child. Girija seemed happy in doing the work. For some time, all went well. One day, my sister recognized that, Girija didn’t feed the baby regularly, in her absence. Sometimes, Girija won't feed it, even if, it was crying. She got quite unhappy about this, as Girija was taking care of the child at her school hours.

So, Girija was expelled from the job and later there were abuses from the Girija's sister for expelling her. It gave way to a prolonged anger between my sister's family and Girija's family.

But, I had a different angle of looking into this series of events.

Actually, Girija's sister found Girija happily living with my sister as a maid. But, she could not see, the unhappy ending like this. So, her abuses were raised out of the love and affection that she had for Girija.

My sister, being naturally careful about her child, out of that love towards her child, had expelled Girija. It was finally love, that was acting in both sides, which created the prolonged anger between the families. This is a simple example to illustrate that, there is neither anger nor hatred as such. All that is called hatred is a manifestation of the love, when it is in some other direction.

I think, if Girija's sister and my sister, both, knew that it is out of their love, that, they were getting angry, they would have acted to better cater needs of their beloved ones, instead of abusing.

How do you convince?....Exaggeration!

Hi there,

Sorry for making some eager folks waiting(though my count for those, is limited to a uno!). And when You start, its a bizzarre thing that comes into mind especially when you feel sick about some attitudes around. So, its under the Bizzare Heading.

As some may say, some of my thought process goes well, others might suck. Hope this one doesn't. Someday somehow I happened to explain one of my dear friends, the consequences caused by the use of exaggerations, too regularly.

Here starts a story for you. I got good new collegues, when I had a change. One of the new colleagues, kept using exaggerations. "hey the theatre is 'completely' full","I can bet on this for '101%'.. ",...etc,etc. I dont know if there is any other state more filled than a 'full'. Then what addition does this 'completely' add to a full thatre? Where is extra 1% when he bets 100%? (Well if the bets were in terms of money, I would not have had a second thought, as I get 1% extra!).

So, these exaggerations initially made me think that, he is telling those things with complete confidence and whatever he meant was 'complete' reality. But, later I realized, for convincing something, these kind of exaggarations are mere short term tools, and if you go without them, the trust you get for your words with simple plain truth, is a long living one. Of course there should be moral in every story, so it was!

Ok Guys,
take care, will return with more and better ones!

Memory Power

Some lecture on how to imporve memory power was arranged in our college once, and the resource person, started with a very effective statement, which I still remember."Any piece of information when it enters into the mind, it is just like, a small pin falling into ocean." That is, You can never retrieve it back if you simply throw a piece of information into mind.
Then how to get it back? How to remember things? The answer is, "You should relate". You should relate any newly entering information to the existing information that you can retrieve at your will. This relation acts as a net and if you know how to get to any point on this net, you can reach to the needed information however subtle it is.
Let me exemplify. Foriegners' names have been very hard for me to rememeber. I dont find any already exisitng memory thread to which I can add on this new name. In case of Indian names, I can atleast relate it to some meaning however obscure the meaning be.
One fine day I got a call from Gautham saying that he has joined a comany in Bangalore. I asked him the name of the company and he told me a foreign name. As always, I was not confident that I would remember it. (Also I was sure that I will have to pay heavily, if I dont remember.) So, I asked again. When I asked him twice or so, he realized my difficulty and came to my rescue. The company name was Mascon. He told me to relate it with ISCON( an organization known for the devotees of lord Krishna), and I could remember it well later.
The moral of the story: When you get a new piece of info need to be memorized, you link it with already memorized piece of information. Thats it. You will surely get it, whenever you want. That is the secret of memory power.

May and can

This all started with a small incidence narrated by one of my friends, Mohan, When I was in ADA. The narration was like this:
Somebody called his freind over phone asking,"Can I speak to Mr.Vijay"(name changed)
and his friend answered,"you can, but you may not!".
That time(when this narration was made), I was a 'buchcha' in this type of sensitive english. So, I simply remembered.(Many times I do this. I simply remember the things that I dont understand, hoping to understand them somewhere in the future).
Later, I dont know when, at some point of time, I got to know the difference. Some day while discussing with Phani, I began elaborating him, "you can hit your boss with a stone in public, but you may not", which makes it pretty clear. 'Can' is the matter of capability and 'may' is the matter of probability.
And that exactly made me understand this:"after removing all that is impossible whatever remains however improbable must be the truth". This appears in one of the short stories written by Sir.Arthor Canon Doyley.(This sentence, I might have gone through, while reading Sherlock Holmes stories, but didnt realize the meaning at that time)
Once I understood the meaning of this, the revelation for me was tremendous. Bacause, gradually, as I recollected Sherlock Holmes stories, I found that, each of the analysis that Mr.Holmes conducts for his deductions is based on this particular principle. Though this basic principle of detective work can be put so simple, there still remains a great challenge for the detectives. That is, to demark between what is impossible and what is improbable. Because this demarkation greatly depends on amount and accuracy of information, the detective holds.

Dogistory

I used to be afraid of dogs very much. Now, though I still get feared, I manage not to run. Because, running can prove dangerous, I know. Dogs also, donot like running men, i feel. I anticipate enough barking from dogs, whenever I see them. Until they keep barking, that is, their mouth will have a movements totally dedicated to barking, so, I need not worry. I firmly believe the single thread processing atleast in the case of dogs. Only one process at a time. If it is barking, then it wont bite. So, I am safe as long as it is barking. Once, it stops barking, then one needs to be more careful.

It was really a great relaxation for me, when I came to know about the that we are protected by the self protection act from them. If a dogs comes and barks on you, you can claim that, it has come to bite you. So, according to self protection act, you can attack on it and save yourself from, dog-bite. So, a legal approach is still available in public places. One of my relatives told me this, and I was so happy that day.

The day I learnt this, I started carrying the umbrella with me in all occations. I wont care if i need to give any clarifications for this though, it is somewhat irritating. Atleast it is better than, getting your stomach inserted with injections 14 times! Alas! it is so difficult to live.
Whenever we plan to go somewhere in our holidays, presence of dogs is one of the important parameters to be considered. We would always be reluctant to visit homes where there would be dogs. The first thing we would note about a house newly visied would also be the same. Because, in spite of having a pond, a big house, so as to get enough hiding places for hide and seek, or even a bunch of trees, very suitable for climbing if a dog is there, they are all waste.

One day it thus happened that, on the road there were 3 dogs sitting like people pose for sitting for a strike. By that age, I had alreay developed a practice of seeing the far end of the street whenever I take a turn and realized, their presence. Instantly, I decided to go through some other route and escaped the attack. Some other day, dogs became aware of this and were sitting at the corner and before I could know that they were there, I was standing right in front of them. This was a crucial battle, and I had only one weapon, a small bag made of cotton. This was the time the real worrier in me showed up and for a long time, I didnt see them in that route.

May be it is more convenient to put stories about dogs under a seperate heading, "Dogistory". This I am suggesting because of the abundance of stories available on dogs. Dogs in fact never have been given the attention they have to be given. All these menaces created by dogs are just because, dogs are not given right place in society. They are noted only when, some thief breaks into a house or, when a corporation van pulls them into it. I really feel that this is the reason why, dogs are taking revange agains us in all possible ways, many of them I have already observed.

The final message from my side is this. Please always keep dogs in the right place you need to keep them. They might have troubled you many times. But, as you say in hindi, "paap se door raho paapee se nahee".

BAKophobia

With all phobia's I am adding another desease. BAKophobia. I badly want to share this experince because you all are going to get benefited out of it.

It happened like this. I had installed a software in my PC(It is a client actually). But, it was not working. I broke my head in several different ways. But couldn't solve it. The sotware still kept its challenge to my ability open. Finally, I had to visit the master of software installation in our department. He is so experienced and so knowledgeable in installing the software. So, I asked him to help me. He went through all procedures, many of them mere a repitiation of what I did, and finally, found the loophole. The installation was refering to a back up file(back up configuration file). He removed that back up file, and we were welcomed by the appearance of client window.

That was the time, when I started hating Back Up files. I honestly hate them. The honesty is in that, the oath that I took at the time I realized that I hated them. The oath goes like this:" I will promptly shift delete(permanent delete- cannot be reincarnated from recycle bin also) all the bak files I could see in my PC,( and other PC's too when I see them). Every day as soon as I arrive, I will search for all the back files in my PC and delete them. I will never opt for a back file generation in the event of any change in any file. I will spread this message as much as possible" I have been honest in obeying this principle and suggest all of you too for doing so.

I started a great rage for backup files. I also realise that it has become a desease now. But then, why name it? I badly believe that, there should be a name for each desease. I advice all the readers to name any of the new kind of disorders with a particular name. A named desease always invokes respect for the patient in the heart of any person who comes to know. So, I immadiately figured a name for this desease, when I came to know that I had such a disorder. "BAKophobia". What else can I name this desease. I have seen 'phobia' many times in the testbooks and news papers. Whatever, we hate in gereral can be put as a kind of phobia. This makes the desease more respectable, I feel, than giving a trivial name. I hope I am not overburdening the syllabus of future students of future students of medicine. But then, I am also giving them a chance to charge more for these desease. I strongly feel that, doctors charge more for all the disorders that were named in thier text books. So, I feel that I am helping them than troubling.

I really dont understand the logic of creating the back files. These files simply reside at the disk and they are of no use. Suppose you have a large file, you open it, and make a small modification. Then a back file gets created with original conent and modified content will be stored in the actual file. This is as good as storing that large file twice with obviously no need for that with small difference in content in them. It consumes so much of you hard disk space and it ceratinly not advisable to keep it for any reason. Another noticeable fact is that, many viruses are activated when a back file gets generated. The synthesis of many computer viruses is done taking backup file as basis. Whenever back up files are created, many dangerous viruses may keep hang your PC's. many times you might have noticed that, your text editor works fine until you save it. When you save it, the whole system gets hanged. This is becuase, when you save it, a back up file will be created and this as soon as it gets created, viruses get activated. Ans also, You might have seen the extension of back file itself. How awkward it is. never look a beauty, with two dots. Just compare two file names text.txt and text.txt.bak. How beautiful is the first name. And how awkward is the second.

Even, bak files are a disrespect to the author/creator. What is the meaning of reverting back to a previous version after we have edited. Isn't there any respect for the editing that we have done. The operating systems actually disrespect us by creating bak files as if to show that, we may go wrong, and we may have to return back to original version. This is another reason we all should start deleting back files as and when possible. So, freinds, let us hold our hands together in deleting all back up files and let us have a motto that, we would be (shift) deleting all back up files of any sort within 2020.

OK, it is time now, for starting deletion of todays back up files in my machine. Hurrying for that. Will surely write more about them in coming posts. Till then, good bye.
